Welcome Krishi Vigyan Kendras are established by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi to accomplish the job of transfer of technology in the field of agriculture for the benefit of farming community in general. The basic objective is to increase the agricultural production in the country and to improve the living standard of people.
Krishi Vigyan Kendra is a district level organization engaged in transfer of latest technologies to the farming community of the district. KVK acts as a bridge between the research organization and farmers that works for solving the location specific problems (issues) of farming community in agriculture and allied fields.
Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Bikaner has been established in July 1983 under the administrative control of Swami Keshwanand Rajasthan Agricultural University (SKRAU), Bikaner with full financial assistance from Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) through ICAR-ATARI Zone-II. Bikaner city is the administrative headquarters of Bikaner District and Bikaner division. Agro-climatic Zone Characteristics 1 Zone IC (Hyper arid partially irrigated western plain) In this zone, mean daily maximum temperature goes up to 42 ºC during summer and 24 ºC during winter. Similarly, Mean daily minimum temperature during summers comes down to 27 ºC and to freezing point during winters. The rainfall rages from 185 to 399mm. The area is characterized by strong southwest winds during summer with frequent dust storms. The major Kharif crop of the zone are pearl millet, moth bean, cluster bean and sesame under rainfed conditions and groundnut, cotton under irrigated conditions. In Rabi, chickpea, mustard and wheat are major crops in this zone. Topography S.N. The nutrient and water retention capacity is very low. Considerable area has hard pen at varying depths. Some soils of the zone are gypsiferous. The Krishi Vigyan Kendra celebrate and conduct awareness programme on International Yoga day (21st June), World food day (16th October), World soil day celebration (5th December) during each year. Also conduct two preseasonal training programme, SAC meeting and other awareness programme for farmers, Farm women and Rural youth during every year.
